Clough happy with progress

Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough is content with the progress being made by his squad ahead of the new League One campaign.

The Blades got off to a slow start last term, winning just one of their first 11 league fixtures, before the arrival of Clough in October prompted an upturn in fortunes. United recovered enough in the second half of the campaign to finish just outside the play-off places in seventh and also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup. "We've got to give all the squad some playing time and get them fit," Clough told the club's official website. "We're three weeks away from the start of the season and have been back just over two weeks, so we're not even halfway through our preparation yet. "We've done a lot of good leg work, the base fitness is there, it's now about sharpening up in the next three weeks with the games. "We get good print-outs on playing time for each individual, we know how many minutes we'd like them to get in between now and Bristol City and we've got plenty of opportunities to do that."
