Clough: Porter offer is fair

Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough thinks the offer the club have made to out-of-contract striker Chris Porter is a fair one.

The Blades, who released eight players last week, chose not to take up the 12-month option on Porter's current deal and instead offered him new terms which the 30-year-old has yet to agree to. "He's considering the offer that we've made him and he'll let us know as and when he can," Clough told the club's official website. When asked if the former Derby forward had received offers from rival clubs, Clough said: "I've no idea. We've made him an offer that we think was right for the club. "It was maybe a bit lower than he would have hoped for, but that's the position we're in with him." Porter scored 11 goals in 41 appearances for the Blades last season after being recalled from a loan spell at Chesterfield in October. Fellow striker Shaun Miller was one of the eight players released by the club, while Clough signed another forward, Marc McNulty, earlier this week from Livingston for an undisclosed fee.
