Brandy toasts to improved form

Walsall's Febian Brandy is enjoying looking up at the play-off places rather than over the shoulder at the relegation battle.

Brandy's sixth goal of the season clinched Saturday's superb 2-1 victory at high-flying Doncaster and moved the ninth-placed Saddlers to within four points of the top six, albeit having played a couple more games than their rivals. It certainly beats a relegation scrap, though, with the Saddlers having narrowly survived for the last two seasons while things were not looking great as recently as mid-December with the midlands outfit once again hovering just above the bottom four. Speaking after the success over Rovers, Brandy told the club's official website: "We showed character and determination to get the win. If we keep playing our football, we've always got a chance regardless of who we are up against. "It's nice to be looking up rather than down. We've beaten some of the top teams this season and really proved what we can do. We'll just continue to take each game at a time and then see where it takes us." Brandy only joined Walsall in the summer and, after just one goal in his first 15 appearances up until mid-December, he has been one of the main catalysts of the club's winter revival, with five in his last eight outings. "I'm just glad to be playing football and making a contribution," he added. "We're all in this together and I'm just as happy making goals for others as I am scoring myself. "Having said that, it's always nice to get your name on the scoresheet and when it's the winner, that's even better."
