Carey hopes to get Paynter in

Doncaster assistant manager Brian Carey has said trialist Billy Paynter would be a welcome addition to the Rovers squad.

Paynter, 28, scored just three goals in 28 appearances for Leeds last season and also spent three months on loan at Brighton. He looks to have no future at Elland Road after being transfer-listed by manager Neil Warnock. Carey told the club's official website: "I think we're hoping to add him to the squad. I don't know where we are up to with it, he came in this morning and has taken part in the training session - hopefully he will be added to the squad. "I don't think he has had much game time with Leeds for one reason or another, but he would be a welcome addition to the squad and we'd be delighted for him to be here." Carey added: "We are always looking to improve wherever we can, I can't give you any names at the minute because I don't know for definite but we will always look to recruit where we can if we feel it would be a welcome addition to the squad - it's our job to keep improving the team."
