Sheffield United boss Danny Wilson was pleased with his players after their 1-1 pre-season friendly draw at Ilkeston.
Harry Maguire was on target for the Blades in the second half before his older brother, Joe, equalised for the hosts moments before the final whistle.
Wilson told the club's official website: "The game was everything we needed - a competitive game and a test.
"We aren't interested in how we play as individuals, it is just about getting minutes in everyone's legs.
"We were a little ring rusty, but you expect that in your first game. Credit to Ilkeston, they played in the right spirit and gave us a tough examination.
"We knew what Ilkeston would be about, they have some good players who play with a lot of enthusiasm and pushed us all the way."
