Blades defence falling short

Image: Montgomery: Set for recall despite injury

Nick Montgomery and Marcus Williams could be in Sheffield United's squad to face Walsall on Tuesday despite their recent injuries.

The Blades may rush Montgomery and Williams back from injury to help shore up their threadbare defence for the clash. The League One contenders are currently without defenders Harry Maguire and Matthew Lowton through suspension, while Lecsinel Jean-Francois could be out for the rest of the season with a knee problem. That leaves United short of options at the back and, although Montgomery was not expected to return from a calf knock until Saturday's trip to Brentford and Williams has only just shrugged off a back complaint, both players could feature in the visit of the Saddlers. "He (Montgomery) has got a chance," Blades assistant manager Frank Barlow told the Sheffield Star. "Ideally we'd leave Monty for a bit longer but his experience and the fact that he's played that role before means he could come in. "Marcus could also become available. But we need to see if he has any type of reaction first."
