Sheffield United may be without Kevin McDonald for a number of weeks due to a hamstring injury.
The midfielder, who was enjoying his best form of the season, picked up a hamstring strain in the 2-1 win over Preston 10 days ago which has ruled him out of United's last two games.
"He is not ready, we are disappointed because he has been playing very well," Wilson said ahead of Wednesday's League One clash with Scunthorpe.
"It's not a tear but if you bring him back too quickly it becomes a tear and you're on the sidelines for a long time.
"We have to be very careful. We are hoping it will be weeks rather than longer.
"It changes the way we play. When he isn't in the side you miss out on his ability."
