Paul Dickov was relieved to see his Oldham side hang on for a dramatic 2-1 win over Walsall in League One on Tuesday night.
Filipe Morais opened the scoring after 73 seconds and Robbie Simpson gave Latics a two-goal cushion at the interval.
However Florent Cuvelier reduced the arrears for the Saddlers and Oldham goalkeeper Alex Cisak had to save Alex Nicholls' late penalty to secure victory.
"It isn't always easy to see the game out when you haven't won for a while, but we got there in the end," said Dickov after seeing his charges win for the first time in seven matches in all competitions.
"We played some good football when we kept a high tempo and we were looking comfortable with a 2-0 lead. There were times when we switched off and stopped getting the basics right. We were taking too many touches and not playing the easy pass.
"Alex Cisak would admit he made a mistake for Walsall's goal, but he's a good keeper and I'm pleased for him that he saved the penalty."
