No Blades appeal for Beattie

Sheffield United have opted not to appeal against James Beattie's red card for violent conduct in the weekend defeat at Charlton.

Beattie was sent off by referee Darren Deadman in the closing stages of Saturday's 1-0 defeat at The Valley following his clash with Yann Kermorgant in a melee which followed Darel Russell's challenge on team-mate Kevin McDonald. The former England striker will now serve a three-match ban, starting with the FA Cup fourth-round clash with Birmingham at Bramall Lane this weekend. Blades manager Danny Wilson said: "I'm not advocating what James did, but when you seen the attack on Matt Lowton, which is obvious, then you can understand why James has gone to help his team-mate. "But once a player raises his hands, it's deemed as violent conduct. Through instruction, we feel it would be a pointless exercise to appeal and therefore accept the three-match ban."
