Derby County boss Nigel Clough has ruled out an imminent bid for Gary Hooper due to Scunthorpe United's asking price.
The striker has been a long-term target for Clough, while fellow Championship clubs Leeds United and Middlesbrough have been linked with bids.
Hooper was left out of Scunthorpe's opening pre-season friendly at the weekend due to mounting transfer speculation, but Clough is not expecting the 22-year-old to arrive at Pride Park.
Clough said: "Scunthorpe want an awful lot of money for him and we already have six strikers on our books.
"The combination of those things mean we won't be adding him at the moment."
Meanwhile, Rams forward Chris Porter has had an injection in his hip and will miss the club's opening pre-season friendlies.
The 26-year-old will not be involved when the Rams begin their preparations at Burton on Saturday and will remain absent for the trip to Southend on Monday.
He is expected to resume training next week with a view to facing Bournemouth at Dean Court two days later, while Steve Davies is also set to have a knee injury assessed after sustaining the problem in training on Monday.
