Addicks winger in demand after promotion failure

Skysports.com understands the race to sign Charlton Athletic winger Lloyd Sam is hotting up following the club's failure to win promotion. Sam's contract at The Valley expires in the summer and he is wanted by several clubs who will be playing in the Championship next season. Leicester City, Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield United are all understood to be monitoring the 25-year-old's situation at Charlton. And Burnley, who have been relegated from the Premier League, are another club weighing up a move for Sam, who was linked with Newcastle United midway through the season. Sam is a product of Charlton's youth system and has established himself as an important member of the team in recent seasons after previous loan spells at the likes of Sheffield Wednesday. He was a virtual ever-present in League One this term, but saw the club's promotion dreams ended by a penalty shoot-out defeat by Swindon Town on Monday night. Teenage midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has already left to join Liverpool and Charlton may receive further interest in their players over the summer after missing out on a spot in the Championship.
