Defender faces further scan on shoulder

Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy has been dealt a blow in his comeback from injury. The 26-year-old has only managed 14 appearances for Palace so far this season because of a long-term shoulder problem leaving him sidelined for almost five months. He was hoping to make his comeback at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night after travelling with the squad for the 2-2 draw with Blackpool at the weekend. But manager Paul Hart has revealed McCarthy now faces another scan before setting a further comeback date. "Paddy has had some trouble and has gone back home," Hart told the South London Press. "He'll have a further scan. He's had a reaction to some work he did. "We're just hoping it is scar tissue but he's gone for a further scan to try and get to the bottom of it." Administration hit Palace are in desperate need of the points because of their perilous position at the wrong end of the Championship. The Eagles are on 39 points after 37 games of the season following the 10-point deduction for going into administration and are currently in the bottom three.
