Troublesome shoulder returns to haunt Palace centre-half

Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines as the prospect of further shoulder surgery looms. The Irishman injured his shoulder in training earlier this month after falling awkwardly, keeping him sidelined for the Eagles' last four games. McCarthy could now face further surgery on the problematic shoulder after going under the knife on the same one in January of this year. Medical staff at Selhurst Park had originally hoped he would be fit to return to action but further examinations have prompted suggestions of another operation. "It doesn't look good," Palace boss Neil Warnock told the Croydon Advertiser. "He'll see the specialist again on Monday and decide the best course of action."
