Tykes winger poised for new deal

Barnsley winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce is close to signing a new deal with the Championship club. The Jamaica international was playing for his country in the Concacaf Gold Cup last week, but has returned after they failed to make the quarter-final stage. The 26-year-old has recently been linked with a move away from Oakwell, with Reading said to be monitoring the situation, but skysports.com revealed last month that a new deal was on the cards. And Campbell-Ryce has now confirmed that talks are progressing well and he is set to put pen to paper. "I think it is practically done now and I'm back from Jamaica, so it shouldn't take too long to iron out any creases," he told skysports.com.

Concentrating

"There might be one or two things to go over, as there always are during contract negotiations, but it shouldn't be long until everything is completed." The Tykes rejected two bids for the tricky winger in January and Campbell-Ryce revealed he is fully focused on playing for Barnsley next season with no new offers for his services. He said: "I've not been made aware of any offers coming in for me over the summer and it hasn't really concerned me to be honest. "I've heard that clubs were interested in the papers, but nothing concrete has come to fruition like it did in January. "I'm not worried about that though because all I'm concentrating on is getting my head down and whatever happens will happen. I just want to play football."
