Montgomery: Contract extension

Sheffield United have taken up contract extension options on both midfielder Nick Montgomery and long-serving keeper Paddy Kenny.

Montgomery, who was one of the few to impress in the Blades' Championship play-off final defeat to Burnley, had been out of contract this summer.

The Leeds-born midfielder will now be looking to help the Bramall Lane outfit secure promotion next time around following an injury-hit past few seasons.

United's decision to take up Kenny's option caps a remarkable six-month spell after he was transfer listed by manager Kevin Blackwell last December after turning up late for training.

New deals

Meanwhile, the club are hoping to retain duo Ian Bennett and Leigh Bromby, who will be offered new contracts in the near future.

Bromby rejoined the club on loan from Watford for the remainder of the season and has impressed enough for the club to decide to sign him permanently for an undisclosed fee.

One player who is leaving is Adam Chapman, who spent half of the season out on loan. Chapman will join Oxford United for a nominal fee, although the Blades will secure 50 per cent of any sell-on fee.

Danny Webber and Ugo Ehiogu have left the club following the expiry of their contracts, while Blackwell has made Lee Hendrie, David Carney, Nicky Law and Zeyn S-Latef all available for transfer.
