Injuries force Blackwell to revise transfer plans

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell has admitted injuries have caused a re-think of the Blades' transfer window plans. The Blades have been hit by the loss of veterans Ugo Ehiogu and Gary Speed, who could miss the remainder of the season. Ehiogu has undergone surgery on a damaged Achilles after limping-off in the 1-1 Boxing Day draw at Wolves, while Speed is set to enter hospital on Tuesday to try to rectify a back problem. While Blackwell says he will try to negate these injury blows in his transfer dealings, any business the Blades do must be conducted on budget in these financially difficult times. He told The Star: "What we do will depend on injuries.

Rehab

"Ugo hasn't ruptured his tendon but he has shredded it and could be looking at around four to six months rehab. "So there's a chance he could be back for the play-offs if we're involved in them which would be great for him but, in my mind, I've had to write him off the for campaign. "Ideally I'd been looking at other areas but we might have to change that now. "Money, everywhere, is tight and so any business we do end up doing must be done on budget."
