Winger joins on short-term deal from Sheffield United

Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of midfielder Keith Gillespie on loan from Championship counterparts Sheffield United. Gillespie, 33, will remain at The Valley until 3rd January 2009, with United holding a recall clause after 28 days. The Northern Ireland winger has made just one league appearance for the Blades this season and heads to London in search of regular first-team football. Blades manager Kevin Blackwell said on the club's official website: "It's a chance for Keith to get his league career going again. "He's been unfortunate because we are very strong down the right with the likes of (David) Cotterill, (Greg) Halford and (Nathan) Dyer, but he has been playing well for Northern Ireland." Caretaker boss Phil Parkinson is currently at the Charlton helm after former manager Alan Pardew departed on Saturday evening following the 5-2 home defeat by the Blades.
