Sheffield United have expressed an interest in former Barcelona midfielder Gerard Lopez.
The 29-year-old is currently available as a free agent after being released by Recreativo Huelva at the end of last season.
He is playing local football in Catalunya but is actively seeking a return to the professional ranks.
The Blades are believed to have already put an offer on the table, with Gerard admitting he is attracted to the possibility of playing in England.
"I have not yet decided what I am going to do, but this is an interesting proposition," he said.
"England is an attractive country for football but I need to look at other options."
Greek side PAOK Salonica entered into negotiations with the player in August, but were unable to agree financial terms.
A move to the American MLS is another option available to the former Spanish international should he decide against a switch to Bramall Lane.
