Sheffield United are reported to be close to the signing of Barnsley midfielder Brian Howard.
Howard was left out of the Barnsley side for the goalless draw with Norwich amid reports of a possible move to Bramall Lane.
The Blades are believed to have agreed a loan deal for Howard which will then be made permanent in the January transfer window.
Howard helped Barnsley to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup last season, including scoring the winner in the famous victory over Liverpool.
Blades boss Kevin Blackwell was remaining coy on the rumours saying: "When we sign players I will tell you, but it would be wrong to speculate on a Barnsley player."
Sheffield United and Barnsley have refused to confirm the speculation, but Barnsley have called a press conference for Monday to make an announcement on Howard's future.
