Sheffield United midfielder Nick Montgomery could miss the rest of the season after undergoing foot surgery.
Montgomery has been struggling with the foot problem since December and has missed his side's last three games.
United decided to send the midfielder under the knife and Blades boss Bryan Robson fears Montgomery might be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.
"It is really bad luck for Nick who has had a dreadful time with injury this season.
"The theory is that he will be out for eight to twelve weeks which effectively means we could be without him until next season.
"But he is a quick healer and very determined so don't rule him out totally at this stage."
