Bryan Robson hopes that Geoff Horsfield can agree terms with Scunthorpe so that he can start playing again.
The Sheffield United boss feels that the striker needs to be playing regular football at this stage of his career and he can not guarantee him that at Bramall Lane.
Horsfield has made just two substitute appearances in the Carling Cup for the Blades this season and is keen to secure a move.
Scunthorpe currently sit second from bottom in the Championship and Horsfield is believed to be one of a number of players the club are chasing to help them climb away from trouble.
"Geoff Horsfield has been speaking to Scunthorpe, so hopefully things could happen there," Robson told Sheffield United's official website.
"At his age, Geoff needs to be playing and he really needs a permanent move because there are a lot of forwards in front of him here."
