Carney: Forgive Tevez

Sheffield United's David Carney says the club's fans should forgive former West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez.

Blades winger wants fans to move on from relegation

New Sheffield United winger David Carney says that it is time the club's fans forgave former West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez. The Argentine forward effectively relegated the Blades from the Premier League on the final day of last season by scoring for the Hammers at Old Trafford. And Carney feels that although relegation was hard for the club's fans, they should forgive the man that many hold responsible. "Tevez put Sheffield United down on the last day of last season when he scored against (Manchester) United so it's a hard one for (Sheffield) United fans to accept," he said. "But he's a quality player so I think the fans just have to move on." Despite this, Australia international Carney is hopeful of revenge against Tevez when his country play host to Argentina tomorrow. "I'd love to score," said the 23-year-old. "But we'll just have to see how the game goes."

Settling in

Carney joined the Blades last month on a free transfer and although he has not been able to hold down a regular place in the side, feels he has settled in well. "I'm looking forward to having a good and long season for the club this year," he said. "It's just been part of the settling process that I haven't played every game because I'm not 100 per cent match fit yet. "But I've played two Carling Cup games and did alright so hopefully it's just a matter of time before I get more games. "I think I've settled in very well at Sheffield United and the local people and the players have all made me feel very welcome."
Promotion chances
On United's chances of making a return to the Premier League this season, Carney said: "It'll be hard but we have definitely got the squad. "I'm sure Bryan Robson can lead us to the Premiership."
