Chesterfield defender Alex Bailey will be out of action for at least six weeks after suffering a hamstring problem.

The 23-year-old picked up the injury in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Brentford and consequently missed the New Year's Day win over Blackpool.

Bailey is set to have a scan this week but it is uncertain how long he will be ruled out for.

Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland said: "We are disappointed for Alex because he was just starting to get back to his best after recovering from previous injury problems."

The Blues boss also confirmed the exit of Kevan Hurst who has returned to Sheffield United following a six-month loan spell at Saltergate.

The 21-year-old scored the opening goal in Chesterfield's 2-0 win over in-form Blackpool on New Year's day, and his run of good performances for the Blue's has impressed Neil Warnock enough to summon him back to Bramall Lane.

McFarland would have liked to keep the youngster at Saltergate, but admitted he had no control over the situation.

"He has served us well but the situation is out of our hands,‚Ç¥ he said.

"He knows how we feel about him but they (Sheffield United) want him back to have a look at him.

"That is understandable because he has improved as a player and he's stronger and fitter. I really hope he gets a chance in the first team."
