Michael Tonge has begged Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe to hand boss Neil Warnock a new contract.
His current deal at Bramall Lane runs out at the end of this season but the Blades have told him negotiations can wait.
Warnock is keen to sign on again so he can spend the rest of his managerial career with the club.
Midfielder Tonge has urged McCabe and his directors to end the uncertainty over the manager's future and reward Warnock for leading The Blades into the Premiership.
"I'd like to see him get a new deal," Tonge told The Daily Star. "Look how far the club has come under him.
"He's the only manager I've had and it would be difficult to imagine what it would be like working for someone else, getting used to a different way of doing things.
"When he first came here, the Premiership seemed such a long way away. Now look where we are."
