Michael Tonge is 'gutted' to be missing Sheffield United's date with Manchester United, while Danny Webber is doubtful to face his former club.

Blades midfielder Tonge has been trying to recover from an ankle injury sustained against champions Chelsea late last month.

But Saturday's encounter at Bramall Lane will come too soon for the 23-year-old, who started his career as an apprentice with The Red Devils.

"I'm gutted, but the ankle's gradually improving," said Tonge.

Webber, meanwhile, is struggling to be fit for the weekend's match after picking up a hamstring strain in training this week.

Though he has not torn the muscle, the striker has been put in the doubtful category by Blades manager Neil Warnock.

"Happily it (a scan) showed no tear and no strain which is very pleasing, but given the circumstances he must still be rated very doubtful for the weekend," Warnock told the club's official website.

Webber also started out at Old Trafford and made three appearances for the first team before being offloaded to Watford.
