The Football Association have turned down Sheffield United's appeal to have Claude Davis' red card rescinded.
The Blades appealed on Monday for wrongful dismissal against Davis' sending off at Everton last weekend.
Davis was dismissed for bringing down Andy Johnson for a penalty during United's 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park.
The FA's disciplinary commission rejected the claim for wrongful dismissal and Davis will now be forced to serve a one-game ban.
It means that Davis will miss Tuesday's Carling Cup clash with Birmingham.
