Skysports.com understand Sheffield United have agreed a deal to sign Crystal Palace's Mikele Leigertwood.
Leigertwood is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Palace, but United will have pay a compensation fee as the player is under 24.
The powerful defender has turned down a new deal at Selhurst Park to agree a move to Bramall Lane.
United boss Neil Warnock is keen to bolster his squad and sees Leigertwood as a key addition to his side.
Leigertwood is believed to have agreed a three-year deal at the Premiership new boys and is in line to become the club's fourth new signing of the summer following the arrivals of David Sommeil, Claude Davis and Christian Nade.
