Sheffield United have admitted Leigh Bromby is unlikely to be fit for the start of The Blades' Premiership return.

Bromby is currently on the sidelines recovering from surgery after sustaining a knee ligament injury back in March.

United physio Dennis Pettit is delighted with the defender's battle back to fitness, but concedes he is unlikely to feature in their season opener.

Bromby was a key figure under Neil Warnock in their promotion campaign and will be a big loss if he misses their opening fixtures in August.

"He's working really hard, he won't be far away from being ready for the first game of the season," explained Pettit.

"He had quite a nasty injury bit is making very good progress and we're looking at the end of August for when he'll be fully fit again."
