Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has shrugged off reports linking Southampton defender Chris Baird with a move to the club.

Speculation about the 23-year-old's future has been rife in recent weeks, with Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds and Middlesbrough among several clubs said to be monitoring his progress.

The Northern Ireland international is out of contract at the end of the season, and with his future still uncertain, he is a tempting prospect for many managers.

However, Warnock has distanced The Blades from the rest of the pack, despite his eagerness to add to his squad during the transfer window.

"I'm not interested in Baird and have not made an approach for him," Warnock told Sheffield United's official website.

"The only contract I've had was his agent ringing me."
