Sheffield United will take Notts County goalkeeper Saul Deeney on trial.

The 22-year-old is only on a week-to-week contract with The Magpies after turning down a new long-term deal in the summer.

Gudjon Thordarson has signed Kevin Pilkington and Shaun Marshall as his two keepers for the season and is looking to move Deeney on.

Trials at Bristol City and Crewe failed to produce a permanent move for the Irish shot-stopper, but he will now try his luck at Bramall Lane.

Neil Warnock will cast his eye over Deeney in action before deciding if he is worth a contract with the Championship leaders.

Thordarson is hopeful of a move being sorted out as the situation has now been dragging on for too long.

"Saul is heading to Sheffield next week for a trial," Thordarson told the club's website.

"And hopefully at last we can resolve the situation.

"The whole saga has gone on long enough and it is about time it was sorted, so hopefully we can find a solution soon."
