Sheffield United look set to be without the services of defender Rob Kozluk until Christmas following surgery to repair an injured foot.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury during pre-season and it was initially thought that it needed rest in order to heal.

Instead, Kozluk visited a foot specialist this week before having an operation to repair the damage he suffered in the summer.

Blades boss Neil Warnock was pleased the operation went well and revealed the club's fears that Kozluk may have been sidelined for a much longer time period.

"We have spoken to the surgeon who performed the operation and he says it was a success," Warnock told the club's official website.

"He has to have four weeks without putting any weight on the foot before he can start any rehabilitation work.

"It could be Christmas before we see him back in action, but when he was sent for the operation, we thought it may have been even worse."

Another defender that will need to stay away from the club is Simon Francis after the player contracted glandular fever that will sideline him for a couple of weeks.
