Emyr Huws is the key component in Wigan's midfield, according to manager Uwe Rosler.

The former Manchester City youngster completed a permanent switch to the DW Stadium on transfer deadline day and, after suffering an ankle problem while on international duty with Wales, the 20-year-old returned to the starting line-up for Saturday's disappointing loss to Bournemouth.

With James McArthur having joined Crystal Palace and both William Kvist and Adam Forshaw still finding their feet, Rosler insists Huws is a vital cog in the trio of central midfielders he tends to deploy.

"To have the best possible dynamic in that midfield we need Emyr Huws because of his footballing qualities, but also his physicality for a young player," said Rosler.

"He has already a very good physicality in terms of his endurance level, speed, break-up play, driving in and being a goal threat.

"We need him and I think our balance was not 100 per cent right, it couldn't be because Emyr was missing."
