Transfer news: English clubs target Swedish defender Emil Bergstrom

Sky Sports understands a number of English clubs are tracking highly-rated Swedish defender Emil Bergstrom.

Djurgardens IF stopper Bergstrom is regarded as one of the best young talents to emerge from Sweden in recent years.

Bergstrom made his debut as a 17-year-old for Djurgardens and he has gone on to make over 90 appearances and is currently club captain.

The Sweden Under-21 international's form has not gone unnoticed across Europe, with several Championship sides keeping tabs on his progress, with the player's contract due to expire in December.

The likes of Watford, Reading and Wigan are thought to be interested in Bergstrom as they look to bolster their defensive options.

Bergstrom's agent, Stefan Patterson, confirmed a number of clubs have expressed an interest in the talented defender

"I am aware of interest from a number of clubs in England in Emil as well as clubs in France," Patterson told Sky Sports.

"I am not surprised there is interest in Emil as he is a really top young player.

"He is only 21 but he is captain of Djurgardens and has played lot of games for them at such a young age.

"He is under contract until December and we will see what offers come our way and assess our options."
