Martyn Waghorn hopes he has opened his account for Wigan, but stresses that he will not be too bothered if strike-partner Nicky Maynard is given the goal.
The Leicester loanee's corner appeared to drift straight into the Sheffield Wednesday net during the Latics' 3-0 win at Hillsborough on Tuesday night, but Maynard made sure the ball had gone in and was credited with his second of the game.
Waghorn insisted he will be happy with a goal or an assist, whichever is the final decision when the goal gets reviewed, as it helped earn a precious victory.
He told the club's official website: "I'd like to hope I've scored a goal for the club now.
"It's a bit debatable and Nicky's definitely tried to claim it.
"We'll see, but I don't mind either way because it's a big three points for us.
"It would be nice if I have got a goal, I thought from my position that it went straight in so I celebrated it.
"Nick's said he's got a touch so it's a dubious one, but whether it's a goal or an assist I can't complain."
