Roberto Martinez says Tuesday night's Capital One Cup tie against Nottingham Forest will give him the opportunity to demonstrate the full quality of his Wigan squad.
The Latics beat Premier League new boys Southampton 2-0 at St Mary's on Saturday to claim their first win of the season and will approach the game against Forest full of confidence against Championship opposition.
The cup clash is sandwiched between the Southampton game and another top-flight fixture at home to Stoke, and Martinez is keen to show the depth of his squad.
"We've got three games in this busy week," said the manager after the victory at Southampton.
"You're going to see a lot of players given an opportunity to show what they can do and that is a competitive edge we have in this group.
"It's a great opportunity to share the demands.
"You've got a few players that have been working really well in pre-season and they've no reward yet and I think it's important that everyone is ready.
"It's an opportunity for some other players to show what they can do and show that they can have a massive say this season."
Martinez is likely to rest some of his leading lights but is not planning wholesale changes for the tie.
The likes of David Jones, Ben Watson, Albert Crusat, Callum McManaman, Fraser Fyvie and Mauro Boselli could get starts while Gary Caldwell and James McCarthy are likely to be among those sitting it out.
Jean Beausejour made his return from a hamstring injury off the bench at Southampton at the weekend and could get another run-out.
