Wigan have bolstered their defensive options after completing the signing of defender Ivan Ramis on a three-year contract from Real Mallorca.
The centre-back arrives for an undisclosed fee to become Roberto Martinez's second new recruit of the summer after Fraser Fyvie.
The Latics had to fend off competition from Premier League rivals West Ham to land Ramis, with Mallorca announcing over the weekend that a deal had been agreed to take the 27-year-old to Upton Park.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan revealed earlier on Thursday that the influence of Ramis' Spanish compatriot Martinez had tempted him to instead plump for the DW Stadium.
The transfer has now been finalised and Ramis could be set to make his first appearance for Wigan against former club Mallorca in a friendly on Sunday.
Ramis made 103 league appearances for Mallorca after making his debut in 2004, and played 34 times in all competitions last season.
