Latics new-boy determined to prove his worth in England

Marcelo Moreno is hoping to make his mark at Wigan and help the club climb the Premier League table. The Bolivian striker joined the Latics on transfer deadline day, completing a loan deal from Shakhtar Donetsk which is set to run until the end of the 2009/10 campaign. The 22-year-old is yet to fulfil his promise in European football, having struggled in the Ukraine and spent a forgettable spell with Werder Bremen earlier this season. He is, however, confident in his own ability and is delighted to have been offered another opportunity to shine by Wigan.

Perfect debut

Moreno is expected to go straight into Roberto Martinez's squad for Saturday's trip to Sunderland and the South American is determined to repay the faith shown in him by his new employers. "Coach Martinez convinced me to join Wigan so now I am hoping to give something back by putting in good performances," he said. "My team-mates and I will do all we can to help the club achieve a better position in the table. "I am working hard with my team-mates to make sure I enjoy the perfect debut. Our next opponents are only two points ahead of us so the match is very important."
