Emile Heskey is a major doubt for next week's Carling Cup tie with Arsenal due to a hamstring injury.
The big striker picked up the injury during Wigan's goalless draw with Stoke at the JJB Stadium on Saturday.
Heskey was forced to limp off to be replaced by Henri Camara and he faces a race against time to be fit for Tuesday's trip to Arsenal.
If the injury is serious it could rule Heskey out of England's friendly with Germany on 19th November.
Latics boss Steve Bruce is waiting to find out the full extent of the problem.
"Emile's got a hamstring strain and he's a big doubt for Tuesday," said Bruce.
"He's had a back injury which we thought was hamstring related, so we'll have to wait and see.
"Emile will see the physio and we'll decide how bad it is. But I would have thought at this early stage, with it being a hamstring strain, he must be a doubt."
