Orient boss keen to ensure he has defensive cover

Leyton Orient boss Martin Ling is likely to extend Wigan Athletic defender Luke Ashworth's loan deal. Ashworth has made just two first-team appearances for Orient since linking up with the League One club last month. He is due to return to Wigan after next week's game with Southend United, but Ling wants to ensure he has enough cover at the back. "I have got to make a decision on Luke over the next week, but as we are still fragile in that area it maybe a case of seeing whether we can keep the lad," Ling told the Epping Forest Guardian. "With the Alton (Thelwell) and Tam (Mkandawire) situation we may still need a body in that area and I would rather we kept someone we already have in the building than have to go out and find someone else if any more problems arise. "As long as the lad is happy being on the bench, or playing in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy or in our reserves then I'm sure we will be able to keep him."
