Erik Edman and Maynor Figueroa are available to start their Wigan careers after being granted international clearance.
Steve Bruce swooped for the two defenders earlier this month but has had to wait for the green light to finalise the transfers.
Edman joined from Rennes after Wigan beat off competition from a number of other clubs for his signature.
Honduras international Figueroa agreed a loan deal with The Latics last week but had to leave England and travel to Holland to obtain a work permit.
Kevin Kilbane has plugged the gap at left-back since Leighton Baines' departure to Everton in the summer.
Edman and Figueroa will now compete for the spot, although one could be pushed into midfield.
They could make their debuts in Saturday's FA Cup game against Chelsea.
