Defender wants to play in England

Argentinean left-back Diego Placente has confirmed he has an offer from an English team. The Celta Vigo defender wants to play in England and has been linked with a move to Wigan as new manager Steve Bruce tries to keep the Latics in the top flight. The former Argentinos Juniors and River Plate player turned down an offer from Everton in 2005 after his contract expired at Bayer Leverkusen, electing to go to Celta Vigo instead. But Placente, who has confirmed several teams from his homeland have also been in touch, now believes playing in England would be "very positive thing for my career". He told TyC Sports: "For the moment I am only thinking of the chance of staying in Europe and playing there. I still don't want to return to Argentina. "Maybe in one or two years I will change my mind about staying definitely in my country.

"I am very thankful to River Plate and San Lorenzo who have thought about me and phoned me but I am analyzing an offer from an English team. "For the moment I can't say too much but if I have the chance of moving to England it will be a very positive thing for my career. "When I decide to return to Argentina it would only be to play either for River or Argentinos Juniors so I am thankful also to Boca who have given me a phone call but I could never play in that team as I respect River Plate a lot."
