Wigan are closing in on the signing of Carlo Nash after agreeing a fee with Preston.

The former Middlesbrough and Manchester City custodian spent a spell on loan at Wigan last season after a bust-up with Preston chief Paul Simpson.

Wigan have now decided to make Nash's move permanent after agreeing a £300,000 fee with Preston for the keeper.

Nash is set to tie up his move to the JJB Stadium next week.

"I can confirm we have accepted a no-strings cash offer for Carlo Nash from Wigan Athletic of £300,000," Preston chairman Derek Shaw told the club's official website.

"Carlo is currently on honeymoon, but he is due back in the country at the beginning of next week and will meet with Wigan on Tuesday, so we believe, where we expect him to finalise his personal terms and complete the move."
