Wigan confirm double KO

Wigan duo Chris Kirkland and Fitz Hall will miss the remainder of the season.

Wigan have confirmed that Chris Kirkland and Fitz Hall will both miss the remainder of the season.

Kirkland has missed the last two months with a damaged thumb and last played for Wigan in February against Arsenal.

The thumb problem was not progressing as planned and so Wigan decided he should have a shoulder operation - which he was already scheduled to have.

"He's had an operation on his shoulder, and will hopefully be fit for the start of next pre-season," revealed Latics boss Paul Jewell.

"His thumb injury was taking longer than expected to heal, and he was always going to have shoulder surgery in the summer anyway.

"So because the thumb injury was going to keep him out, we decided to go ahead with the surgery earlier than we had planned."

Hall will also miss the final four games because of a knee injury he picked up at Aston Villa earlier this month.
