Wigan's Emmerson Boyce faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking two ribs in Saturday's victory at Manchester City.

Boyce, a key figure in Wigan's recent revival, looks set to miss at least the next two matches.

"It's a shame for Boycey, who has been magnificent this season," said manager Paul Jewell.

"But he's the sort of lad who will come back at the earliest possible opportunity, I'm confident of that."

Boyce's central defensive partner, skipper Matt Jackson added: "He's been an absolute revelation.

"He has quietly got on with his job, without grabbing headlines, but doing an absolutely vital job for us at the back.

"He's the sort of player who puts his body on the line time and time again and you could see that on Saturday.

"Even after feeling pain, he carried on until it was absolutely impossible to do any more.

"I don't know about being an unsung hero, but all the players and the manager certainly appreciate the valuable job he does for the team."
