Latics reject McCulloch request

Wigan have rejected a transfer request from striker Lee McCulloch.

Wigan have rejected a transfer request from striker Lee McCulloch.

McCulloch handed in a transfer request on Friday after Wigan rejected a bid from Rangers for his services earlier this week.

New Rangers boss Walter Smith is keen to bring the Scottish international to Ibrox as he looks to continue his reshaping of the squad.

However, Wigan manager Paul Jewell rejected Rangers' £750,000 bid out of hand describing it as 'derisory'.

Wigan's decision is thought to have upset McCulloch as he is believed to be keen to make the switch to Rangers.

The former Motherwell star handed in the transfer request in a bid to try and engineer a move to Ibrox, but Wigan have moved quickly to reject his request.
