Skysports.com can confirm that Wigan are hoping to seal a move for their former striking star Nathan Ellington.
The Latics have gone through an alarming drop in form which has seen them drop down the Premiership table.
Manager Paul Jewell is looking to bolster his squad during the transfer window and has already secured the signatures of Scandinavian duo Andreas Granqvist and Kristofer Haestad.
However, Jewell desires more fire power and Ellington is the man that is topping his list.
The Duke, as he is known, is still very highly regarded at The JJB Stadium following his three-year stint there from 2002-2005 which saw him bag some 59 league goals.
His time at West Brom has not gone as well as expected and now Wigan are looking to take him back to Lancashire.
The player's representative Tony Finnigan has confirmed that talks have taken place between the two clubs.
"I can confirm discussions have taken place between the two clubs," he told skysports.com.
"We will see what happens in the next 48 hours, but I do expect some sort of outcome one way or another."
