Wigan midfielder Lee McCulloch has been charged with violent conduct by The Football Association.

The charge relates to an incident in Wigan's match with Sheffield United on Saturday where the Scot caught opponent Chris Morgan with an elbow.

The incident saw Morgan suffer a badly-swollen right eye but the defender revealed afterwards that he had accepted an apology from McCulloch.

However, The FA have not been so lenient and McCulloch could now face a three-match ban if found guilty.

McCulloch, who has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge, will face a disciplinary commission hearing on Thursday.
