Wigan chief Paul Jewell admits he is excited about the prospect of fielding new recruit Luis Valencia in The Premiership.
The Latics landed the Ecuador World Cup star on a season-long loan deal from Villarreal and Jewell believes he has the tools to be a real asset to his squad.
"When I went over to the World Cup, he was the one that caught my eye and I am delighted to get him here," Jewell told Sky Sports News.
"He is only 21, he will need some training, but I am excited about him. He looks a real player."
Wigan captain Arjan De Zeeuw has been impressed with the midfielder's early efforts in training.
"In training he looks a good player and to be fair all the new boys have done very well," stated defender de Zeeuw.
It would appear that one of Valencia's key roles will be to provide a goal threat from midfield.
"One area where we are trying to improve is goals from all round the pitch," stated Jewell. "It is an area where we did not do well last year."
