Wigan have confirmed that they want to re-sign Nathan Ellington.
The striker, known as The Duke, quit The JJB Stadium last summer for West Bromwich Albion - but he failed to settle as well as expected and just five Premiership goals followed.
Now Ellington is being targeted by a number of clubs following Albion's relegation and Paul Jewell has confirmed his determination to take him back to Wigan.
"Nathan's one we have made an offer for, and is one of many we are chasing, so watch this space," confirmed Jewell.
Wigan have had a busy week concluding deals for Emile Heskey and Tomasz Cywka and Jewell wants another five or six new signigns.
"We don't have the biggest squad here at Wigan, and that's probably the way I like it because the team unit has always been the most important thing here," he continued,
"But we know where we need to strengthen and we will concentrate all our efforts on bringing the five, six or more players we need this summer."
Jewell is hopeful two more deals will be sealed over the weekend - although Ellington will not be one of those.
"Hopefully, two signings are confirmed on Monday, that will be five new players signed in three days, including Fitz Hall, Emile Heskey and Tomasz Cywka, and we're still in early July," he said.
"There's a long way to go before the season starts, never mind the transfer window closing, and I am delighted that all the hard work carried out by my staff over the past months is starting to bear fruit."
