Wigan Athletic and West Ham are both keeping close tabs on St Etienne defender Fousseni Diawarra.
Les Verts have proved a difficult side to break down this season and Diawarra has played a key part.
Wigan are on the look out for reinforcements with Pascal Chimbonda on the transfer list at his own request.
Latics boss Paul Jewell (pictured) made a successful raid on Ligue 1 for Chimbonda's services last summer and could make another foray into France to snare his replacement.
West Ham had Argentine defender Lionel Scaloni on loan, but with his future uncertain, manager Alan Pardew is keen to strengthen.
Diawarra was involved in a forgetful incident earlier this season when he failed to wear a shirt when coming on as substitute, and during the five minutes it took him to find the appropriate attire his side conceded twice in a 2-0 loss.
However, Jewell and Pardew remain keen on the 25-year-old and could well bid for his services during this close-season.
